Ad execs say the darndest things

Today at work I was asked to "Print a Blog."

That's about all I have to say about that.

Oh, except, about a week ago, somebody looked at me with a scared glance and a hushed voice, "You mean... people outside of this agency can read this blog? Excuse me, I have to go consult with my supervisor."

Chill out, and such

I had a dream last night where I was talking to an elementary school classmate. We weren't great friends, but we'd hang out at recess and play football or wallball or whatever. He and I were just catching up with one another, as if time was just smeared. Sure, I was 22 in the dream, but we were both just a stone's throw away from sixth grade.

And I said the standard rigamarole that I usually get into when I meet new people. "Yeah, I'm doing this art thing in New York. I also dance quite a bit, ya know, like street dancing." And then I do a quick mini demonstration of what Digitz looks like.

And in the dream, as these words pass my teeth, I become really displeased with myself; this is what happens to people when they are 22? How boring.

I'm not displeased because I happen to be doing the art thing in New York or because I dance on my spare time. I'm displeased because my conversation has become so damn predictable.

I then woke up and realized that lately I've been taking life way too seriously.

*****
In other related news, I have loads of time to read now that I live about fourty minutes away from work by subway. Awesome. I picked up my copy of _For the Time Being_, by Annie Dillard, who calculated that North America makes up about 4% of Earth's surface area. I checked on Wikipedia to see how USA matched up with the world: 1.8%.

*****
Back to taking life to seriously - I realized that the best way for me to not take everything so seriouly is to get back in my body. And now I can't help but identify things that force me away from my body.

Working on websites for example. My body is the root - the unseeable part that I must nourish and keep around so that my head and fingertips can dip into cyberspace to do work, to keep me nourished. That's where my source of energy is.

Also, the subway. Have you ever tried to be inside your body on a crowded train? It's really awkward because nobody is there with you. They're zoned out into their ipods or books or ideas or whatever. I started feeling embarrassed for everybody around me when I looked directly at them, as if my sense of being present was an invasion of their privacy. What funny creatures.

Protein bars are on sale downstairs for 25c apiece. I'm tempted to buy all of them at this price, but I think they're approaching their expiration date.

New York in the Summertime

I've never been in New York during the summer. It's kinda sweaty and kinda awesome. Wait, is that kinda sweaty _but_ kinda awesome? I'm not sure anymore.

I got into the NYC marathon in November.

I'm moving into a house on the first with two of my friends from school, Jesse and Alicia. They're awesome cool people, and they design sets (and interiors of houses, I'd hope). Oh yeah, and we're gonna make a foam core model of our house in 1/2" scale, because we're that cool.

I miss good ol' eff-dub. I plan on makin it back sometime this summer for a week or so.

On Friday I went to Union Square to dance w/ some damn good dancers. This guy taught me a crazy technique to strengthen my hand wave articulations. It's all about the double jointed knuckles.

Work's good but a tad boring, very beaurocratic, and sluggishly slow. Luckily, I'm in front of a computer all day, so I can surf and interact with this whole internets thing. Unluckily, I'm in front of a computer all day, and my eyes are ready to burn off.

Craigslist

I'm looking for a new place to live, and this guy keeps popping up:::

http://newyork.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/search?areaID=3&subAreaID=0&query=seth%2C+sunrise&catAbbreviation=aap&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max&bedrooms=

I think my favorite one is $3000 / 5br - ◥█◣PIMPEDOUTPAD—JACUZZI+5 ROOMS◢█◤.

It's like what would happen if realultimatepower.net sold loftspace.

Albert Hwang is Back

So I've had this blog for a long while, and I realized that anything interesting I wanted to write about would be digital or artistic, or something that I was making, which fit better under my other blog, phedhex.blogspot.com.

So while I moved forward, I abandoned this blog because I had nothing really interesting to say.

But I think I've found what I can / might want to use this blog for - all that interesting watching that I do on the internet.

For example, check out dvblog.org. They have some awesome videos, especially a video involving a Rambo audio overlayed across CNN video footage.

And House of Cosby's is a rawkus show that must be seen. Also to check out is Cosby Bebop.

ALSO, big news, I entered the lottery to get into the New York City Marathon a week ago, and I got in. It'll be November 5th. Unfortunately my friends and family who entered didn't hit the lottery, so they won't be running.

ALSO, last night I had dinner with my soon-to-be roommates. They both went to the same school as I, and they're both set designers. I think the most exciting conclusion we came to was that we had to build a half-inch scale model of our apartment.

So yeah. If I read any cool articles, I'll post them here and write about them. But here are some topics that I don't feel like linking to, but you might want to do a google search on anyhow:
  • piratebay.org got raided, check out the image on their site
  • wired.com's article on the 6th sense
  • david elsewhere is not as cool as nam hyun joon (at least ever since that kollab video)
  • wikipedia has an awesome article on "internet phenomenon", including links to everything internet cultural
  • speaking of everything internet cultural, the purpose of the ninja is to flip out and kill people, but that's old news.
  • maddox came out with a book about manliness (even though he's a pirate)
Okay, I'm going to stop blabbing. Maybe someday I should make a website scavenger hunt, that'd be fun.

I'm graduated, unemployed, single, and sorta lovin it.

Sure, sometimes I get the "what the fuck am I doing with my life?" question racing around in my head, but doesn't everybody have those moments of panic?

I have no obligations for once in my life. I've really been battling w/ that conflict my whole life - how much of myself should I be giving up to my obligations, and how much should I be giving up for myself?

One thing I was afraid about upon graduation was not having a job and feeling like a total failure. Didn't happen. I don't have a job and I feel... just a little bored, I guess.

And the weirdest part is how other people react to my graduation. Some say congrats, and celebrate the fact that I've dedicated two weeks of my life to absolutely nothing. Then I talk to some other people who are very gravely concerned and ask how I'm taking it.

Quite frankly, I'm taking it very well. By the end of my academic career, everything was close to meaningless. My life in school was hypothetical at best because nothing caried any real weight. By the end of it, I kept saying to myself, "Really? Theater school?"

So now I'm totally unoccupied with any obligations. I play around with Macromedia Director MX, Flash MX, Adobe Premiere, The Sims 2, and Liquid, Digits, Tuts. I'm gettin bored, so I'm interested in getting a job in computers - not so much to learn as much as to just be around more computer geeks (as opposed to theater geeks). I guess I'll just have to wait and see what comes up.
